Summer '22 is drawing to an end and we couldn't be more honored to have played so much music this year. In fact, more than ever! We couldn't have done it without the support of our families and of course, you the listener, to whom we are eternally grateful. If you didn't get a chance to see us recently, we would really like to see you at a show or two to "Shake and Howdy". With you, in person, is where we find the real joy of music is shared.
Our freshman album, Long Winding Road, can still be found on all streaming platforms and here on Spotify:
We might also have a few physical copies of the album still, so feel free to reach out to us if you're interested!
If you feel inclined to support our efforts you can make a donation by clicking below and we will do our best to put it towards coming to your town to play!
Elk Range has been playing music together since 2015 after an early morning jam session in the campgrounds of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Since starting out, they have shared festival bills with mandolin hero Sam Bush Band, played the The Ute Theater, Aspen Mountain Summer Bluegrass Series, and countless other venues across western Colorado and beyond.
Ken Gentry is originally from St. Louis, where he played with St. Louis's '2005 Best Bluegrass Band', The Sawmill Band.
He plays Ellis and Pava mandolins, guitar, and has written over 100 original songs.
Curtis Fiore is originally from Illinois but grew up in Carbondale, CO. Curtis found a love of guitars from his grandfather, following in his footsteps and often showcasing his jazz and improv background.
Betty Hoops is a 5x Guinness Record holding Athlete Hooper and we think she bends the notes of the Harmonica just as well. She joined the band full time in 2019 after years of sit-ins. She really puts the 'blues' in Bluegrass.
Hugh Phillips is the most recent addition on stand-up bass. Not only has Hugh penned 100's of original songs but he is also a Nashville recording artist- recorded and produced by Sam Bush Band's guitarist, Stephen Mougin at Dark Shadow Recording.
They are often found playing all across Colorado and coming to a town near you!
After hundreds of requests to release an album, they went into Diamond Ranch Studios on February 13, 2021 to record their first album. The album of all original material was recorded and mastered by critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, and producer Jackson Emmer. The final mix was engineered by 2013 Grammy winning artist Chris Latham who has worked with many of Nashville's top musicians including Trisha Yearwood, Guy Clark, Brad Paisley, and John Oates just to name a few.
One listener had this to say: "I listen everyday, know every word, and it's like a big hug!"
Another listener stated that she "loves listening to the album on long road trips and the songs help the miles fly by"
"The best way to knowing any bunch of people is to go and listen to their music"
- Woody Guthrie
